General Comments
- Yck1, Yck2 and Yck3 are serine/threonine protein kinase
- Part of the Casein Kinase I (CKI) family. Wu et al. 2003 PMID 14555477
- All three Yck proteins have a similar specific activity on casein. Sternbach and Kuntzel 1987 PMID 3311146
- Yck1 and Yck2 proteins are required for the phosphorylation, ubiquitinylation and internalization of Ste2. Hicke et al. 1998 PMID 9548714
- The canonical CKI target consensus sequence is (D/E)1-3-X-X-S/T. Wu et al. 2003 PMID 14555477
Yck1
- Potential palmitoylation sites at C537 and C538. Swiss-Prot
- Yck1 strongly prefers ATP as phosphate source. Sternbach and Kuntzel 1987 PMID 3311146
Yck2
- Palmitoylated at C545 and C546 by Akr1(required for membrane localization). Roth et al. 2002 PMID 12370247
- [Yck2]] strongly prefers ATP as phosphate source. Sternbach and Kuntzel 1987 PMID 3311146
Yck3
- Potential geranyl-geranylation sites at C523 and C524. Swiss-Prot
- Yck3 is able to use both ATP and GTP efficiently as phosphate sources. Sternbach and Kuntzel 1987 PMID 3311146
- Yck3 has a kcat = 2.4 /s for casein target (Sternbach et al., Biochem (26) 4207)
- Appears not to be important for adaptation in pheromone response. Hicke et al. 1998 PMID 9548714
